Rutherna is a simple town that found itself in the middle of some of the biggest events of the Mortal Realms. Originally called Septentrio, it was a modest dwelling with nothing of note for centuries. Until the hands of fate played a strange hand. It was the first city that Ruth the Uniter encountered, she was only seven. It became a common place for her to dwell and helped her get to know humanity in a comparatively small scale environment.

The town grew during Ruth's time, her increasing fame drawing more and more people to the area. After Ruth's death, the town was renamed Rutherna and became a major city and symbol of what happens when humans and Benelim work together. But tragedy would strike during the Imperial Terror. Just like Murex, the embittered legionnaires, hot off the heels of defeat, blamed the people of Rutherna for being unbelievers and traitors and Rutherna was devastated, its people nearly wiped out.

After the fall of Primus, as part of a territorial concession with the Realm of the Golden Wood, a sizable enclave was gifted to the Benelim. The northern most part of the Cradlelands now belonged to them. Rutherna was the most notable settlement of the enclave and this was by design. The Benelim bitterly believed that the humans lost the right to the town where The Uniter first appeared. They have since rebuilt the town, but its only a fraction of what it used to be. Such is the legacy of the Imperial Terror.
